Elbow CT is an imaging exam that allows a very detailed study of the bone and joint structures in this region. It is mainly indicated for the assessment of complex fractures, joint diseases and post-traumatic injuries, offering a more complete view than conventional X-ray.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is an Elbow CT and what is it for?<\/span><\/h2>\n

Elbow CT is a computed tomography scan focused on the elbow joint, allowing analysis of bones, cartilage, ligaments and tendons. Thanks to its high resolution, it is an essential exam for diagnosing traumatic injuries, degenerative diseases and inflammatory processes.<\/span><\/p>\n

CT is the technique of choice when there is a need to assess complex bone structures or when X-ray is not conclusive.<\/span><\/p>\n

How much does an Elbow CT cost?<\/span><\/h2>\n

The price of an Elbow CT when performed on a <\/span>private basis<\/b> is <\/span>\u20ac100.<\/b><\/p>\n

However, you can have an Elbow CT through several <\/span>agreements<\/b>, including:<\/span><\/p>\n

    How is it performed?<\/span><\/h2>\n

    Elbow CT is performed with the patient lying on a table that slides into a short tunnel (the CT scanner), which is open at both ends. Images are acquired in different planes, allowing three-dimensional reconstructions of the joint. In some specific cases, such as the study of tumours or infections, iodinated contrast may be administered intravenously. The exam has an average duration of 10 to 15 minutes.<\/span><\/p>\n

    What does it detect?<\/span><\/h2>\n

    Elbow CT is an exam that can detect multiple bone and joint changes, such as:<\/span><\/p>\n

    • Complex fractures or fractures that are poorly visible on X-ray;<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Dislocations and associated joint injuries;<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Degenerative changes such as osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis;<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Ligament and tendon injuries, including biceps or triceps tendon tears;<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Epicondylitis and local inflammatory changes;<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Bone or synovial cysts;<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Bone tumours and infections such as osteomyelitis;<\/span><\/li>\n

      In which cases is it indicated?<\/span><\/h2>\n

      Elbow CT is generally requested by the physician in situations such as:<\/span><\/p>\n

      • Detailed study of fractures after trauma;<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Assessment of persistent pain or joint inflammation without a defined cause;<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Diagnosis of rheumatological diseases affecting the elbow;<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Study of bone tumours or soft-tissue masses;<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Surgical planning in orthopaedics or elbow surgery;<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Monitoring of post-operative progress or after conservative treatment;<\/span><\/li>\n

        Elbow CT with Contrast<\/span><\/h2>\n

        Elbow CT may, in some cases, be performed with intravenous iodinated contrast, especially when it is necessary to differentiate tumours, infections or inflammatory processes.<\/span><\/p>\n

        Injection of the contrast may cause a brief warm sensation or metallic taste, which quickly disappear. Fasting for 4 hours is usually required (you will be informed at the time of booking).<\/span><\/p>\n

        It is essential to inform the team about any known allergies (to medicines, food, etc.), asthma, allergic rhinitis or previous reactions to contrast agents, as these situations may increase the risk of adverse reactions.<\/span><\/p>\n

        When and how do you receive the results?<\/h2>\n

        You will receive the CT scan results within up to 7 days after the exam, by email or in paper form at the clinic. On the day of the exam, you will take the CD with the images with you. <\/span><\/p>\n
