Maxillary CT

What is it?

Maxillary CT is a Computed Tomography (CT) technique specially developed for the study of teeth. It allows images to be acquired of the upper and lower jaws so that all structures can be analyzed.

For which cases is it indicated?

Using the appropriate software program, Maxillary CT allows for full-size reconstructions, including panoramic views, which enables surgical planning through quantitative and qualitative assessment of the bone, in the event of dental implants being placed for oral rehabilitation, guiding the dentist in the safe and rapid placement of the implants (angulation, height and thickness).

Maxillary CT also allows the dentist to determine whether or not there are any anomalies that could limit or even prevent therapeutic intervention, by determining the correct location of vital anatomical structures (which often vary between individuals), so as not to invade them.

They also guide the therapy to be applied, particularly in bone remodeling when there is already marked bone atrophy, especially in people with recent tooth loss.

It is also used to study congenital dental anomalies and oro-dental pathology, including tumors.

Orientation during Maxillary CT

Maxillary CT scans are sometimes carried out using guides provided by the dentist.
You should inform the technician carrying out the examination of their placement during the examination.

During the Maxillary CT scan, the patient’s cooperation is required and they must remain immobilized during the examination.

How are the Maxillary CT results made available?

The images are provided in digital format so that they can be manipulated by other dental software aimed at implantology, as well as on film. All examinations are accompanied by a medical report drawn up by a radiologist.

Does Maxillary CT use radiation?

Although it is a technique that uses ionizing radiation, this is not significant.
