X-ray

What is it?

The most common X-rays are chest X-rays and X-rays of bones and joints.

They require no prior preparation, are easy to perform, painless and do not require the administration of contrast.

Women who are breastfeeding or pregnant should inform the radiographer.

How is it done?

The examinations are carried out by the radiology technician and the report drawn up by the radiologist.

Chest X-rays are taken on inspiration.

Two views are often requested: with the patient facing the front (posteroanterior) and the side (left profile).

The patient should be undressed from the waist up so that there are no artefacts caused by clothing or other items.

Radiographs of bones and joints require appropriate and specific positioning for each region.

Contrast X-ray

No need to administer contrast.

X-ray preparation

No prior preparation required.

Where to do it?

The X-ray can be done at the NRD, at the following address:

Avenida Columbano Bordalo Pinheiro, nº 11-B, r/c, 1070 – 060 Lisboa (Next to Praça de Espanha).

Does the X-ray hurt?
